KARHU Running Shoe Fit Guide

KARHU running shoe fit guide

Find the right fit for every run

The right running shoe should feel secure without restricting the natural movement of your foot. Because every KARHU running model has its own shape, cushioning and intended use, sizing can vary slightly between models.

Use this guide to compare the fit, width and sizing recommendations of the current KARHU running shoe collection, including the Fusion 5.0, Ikoni 3.5, Ikoni ATR, Ikoni Trail and Mestari Run 2.0.

Our most accurate sizing advice: measure the length of both feet in millimetres while standing, then compare the longer measurement with the KARHU size chart. If you are between sizes, the larger size is often the better choice for longer runs.

Width explained

Regular or HiVo?

Selected KARHU running models are offered in both Regular and HiVo fits. Choosing the correct width can provide more comfort than simply selecting a longer shoe.

Regular fit

Standard width

The Regular fit is designed for runners with an average-width foot. It should hold the heel and midfoot securely while allowing the toes enough room to move naturally.

HiVo fit

More width and volume

HiVo versions provide additional room across the shoe. Men's HiVo models use a 2E width, while women's HiVo models use a D width. HiVo changes the width and internal volume, not the length of the shoe.

If the length feels correct but the sides of the shoe feel tight, consider a HiVo version instead of automatically choosing a longer size.

How should running shoes fit?

Space around the toes

Your toes should be able to move naturally without touching the front of the shoe. Remember that feet can swell during longer runs.

A secure heel

The heel should remain comfortably in place while running. A small amount of movement can be normal, but excessive slipping may cause irritation.

Comfortable midfoot hold

The shoe should hold the middle of your foot securely without pressure, pinching or numbness.

The correct width

If a shoe feels tight at the sides but has sufficient length, a wider HiVo fit may be more suitable than moving up another size.

Measure before ordering

How to measure your feet

  1. Place a sheet of paper on a hard floor with one edge against a wall.
  2. Stand on the paper with your heel gently touching the wall. Measure while standing so your foot carries your full weight.
  3. Mark the position of your longest toe and measure the distance from the wall in millimetres.
  4. Repeat the process for your other foot. Use the measurement of the longer foot when selecting your size.
  5. Compare the measurement with the KARHU size chart and apply the model-specific advice shown on this page.

Ready to find your fit?

Start with your foot measurement, compare the fit profiles and choose the KARHU running shoe that matches your preferred cushioning, terrain and training style.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Fusion 5.0, Ikoni 3.5 and Mestari Run 2.0 are available in selected HiVo versions. Men's HiVo shoes use a 2E width and women's HiVo shoes use a D width. Availability can vary by colour and market.
HiVo provides more width and internal volume than the Regular fit. Men's HiVo corresponds to a 2E width and women's HiVo to a D width. HiVo does not make the shoe longer.
The standard Ikoni ATR and Ikoni Trail generally fit true to size. Consider ordering half a size larger if you plan to wear thick socks or need additional space for cold-weather running. For weather-resistant Ikoni ATR versions, we recommend ordering half a size up.
Yes. It is common for one foot to be slightly longer than the other. Measure both feet while standing and use the longer measurement when choosing your running shoe size.
If you are between sizes, the larger size is often more comfortable, especially for longer runs when your feet may swell. Also consider whether you need extra length or a wider HiVo fit.
Most KARHU men's running shoes fit true to size. Measuring your foot length and comparing it with our running size guide is the best way to ensure the correct fit for training and racing. But we also have size advice on all the product pages.
